Your eBook is protected by a digital lock (DRM), a choice made by the publisher. This means it must be opened with a compatible reading app on a properly authorized device.
Most of our catalog is now compatible with Cantook, a Quebec-based reading application.
We recommend using Cantook whenever possible.
To check if a book is compatible with Cantook, go to My Account > My eBooks, or look directly on the book’s page on leslibraires.ca before purchasing.
If you already have a Cantook account, you can read your eBooks there by linking it to your leslibraires.ca account. Full instructions are available here:

Cantook is available as a mobile app for Android and iOS, and as an online reader for other devices (Mac, Windows, UNIX, and certain tablets with web access).
If your book is not compatible with Cantook, or if:
your tablet doesn’t support the Cantook app (e.g. Kobo);
you want to read offline (e.g. on a plane);
you prefer your current app and already have your books there;
you use a Kindle (not compatible with protected files);
You can still use Adobe Digital Editions to read your eBook.
You’ll need to create an Adobe account, install a compatible app, and authorize it with that account. The first three steps only need to be done once.
Step 1 – Create an Adobe Account
If you already have one, move to the next step. Otherwise, go to https://account.adobe.com/ and create your account.
Important: Use the same account on all your devices.
Step 2 – Install a Compatible Reading App
Depending on your device, install one of the following:
Mac or Windows PC: Adobe Digital Editions (no longer updated but still functional)
Android: PocketBook Reader
iPhone or iPad: PocketBook Reader or Bluefire Reader
Kobo eReader: Install Adobe Digital Editions on your Mac or PC, then continue to Step 3
Kindle eReader: Not compatible with DRM-protected files
Step 3 – Authorize Your App with Your Adobe ID
Adobe Digital Editions (Mac or PC)
Open the Help menu, select Authorize Computer, then enter your Adobe ID (email and password) and click Authorize.PocketBook Reader (Android or iOS)
Go to Settings > Accounts > Adobe DRM, enter your Adobe ID credentials, and click Sign in.Kobo
After authorizing Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, connect your Kobo via USB. Tap Connect on your eReader, and drag your book onto the Kobo icon that appears in Digital Editions.
Step 4 – Download and Open Your Book
On leslibraires.ca, go to My Account > My eBooks and find the file you want to read (your most recent purchase appears at the top).
Click Download — this will give you a file named URLLink.acsm (or similar). Open it in the reading app you authorized with your Adobe account.
Important: If your app has not been properly authorized, the book will open under an anonymous account. In that case, you won’t be able to transfer it to another device or recover it in case of loss or device failure.
